Urban Forest Assessment Course SMA members have been involved over the past several months in collaborating with BCIT in the launch of their new and improved Urban Forest Assessment course.  The online course has just launched and is now open for registration at: https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/renr1060

Course Details - The Urban Forest Assessment course provides training in ecosystem values and assessment protocols for urban forests and the application of this information in regional land management. This knowledge is increasingly relevant in municipal planning and in the assessment and enhancement of natural capital and infrastructure. i-Tree software provides economic values for ecological services such as for pollution mitigation, avoided runoff, and carbon sequestration, and provides valuable information about pest and storm water risk management. This course includes an understanding of the basics of urban forest assessment, an overview of i-Tree applications and their function and features. The Urban Forest Assessment course is applicable for students studying ecological restoration, forestry, resource management, arborists, planners, consultants, stewardship groups and teachers. This course is accredited by the International Society of Arboriculture and will give students 6 ISA CEU’s (A, U, M, TL, TW, BCMA).
